Pre-Game Report: Game 2 - Eagles vs. Chiefs

The Surrey Eagles will have an opportunity to take a commanding 2-0 series lead on Saturday evening when they host the Chilliwack Chiefs in Game 2 of the best-of-five Mainland Division Final series. The Birds took Game 1 by a score of 4-0 on Friday night.

Surrey got out to an amazing start in the opening game, scoring all four of their goals in the first period. Demico Hannoun tallied his first two goals of the post-season while Michael Santaguida picked up the shutout with 35 saves. Despite the victory, Surrey's power play struggled at times, going 0-for-9 against the league's top penalty kill. Converting on the man advantage could be key for the Birds on Saturday night. Defensively, the Eagles did a good job of limiting Chilliwack's scoring chances and preventing the Chiefs' top guns from finding their stride.

The Chiefs played poorly in the first period of Game 1, but bounced back with a more complete effort in the final 40 minutes of the game. Josh Hansen and Phil Zielonka both hit goal posts in the attacking zone, and the Chilliwack club limited the Eagles' chances at the other end of the ice. The Chiefs' comeback attempt was ultimately thwarted by a lack of discipline as the visitors gave Surrey eight power plays in the last two periods.
