Eagles Weekend Wrap-Up

After the opening weekend of the BCHL pre-season, the Surrey Eagles sit with a record of 1-1-1 at the halfway mark of their exhibition campaign.

After opening with a 5-0 win over Langley on home ice Friday night, the Eagles lost 8-3 in the return match up at Langley Sportsplex on Saturday evening. Langley Rivermen play by play broadcaster Brandon Astle has a full recap here: http://bit.ly/MV7EHF

On Sunday afternoon the Eagles paid a visit to the Coquitlam Express at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex. Connor Burke opened the scoring for Coquitlam in the first period, and the Express held the advantage at the intermission. Early in the middle frame, Demico Hannoun scored a shorthanded marker to even the score at 1-1, but the Express jumped out to a two goal lead with a pair of power play goals in the space of 6:38 scored by Cody Gordon and Sam Majka. Nicolas Pierog got one back for Surrey before the end of the period, and the Eagles went into the dressing room trailing 3-2. In the third, Coquitlam once again took a two goal lead on a power play goal by Brady Shaw, but the Birds mounted a valiant comeback with goals from Roshen Jaswal and Brett Mulcahy. The game ended in a 4-4 tie.

The Eagles next game is Wednesday night at the South Surrey Arena against the Express. Surrey will also host Chilliwack on Friday night. Both games are 7pm starts. The Birds wrap up the pre-season on Saturday night in Chilliwack against the Chiefs.
