Eagles Down Express 4-2

Trevor Cameron and Colton Mackie each had a goal and an assist as the Surrey Eagles improved to 2-1-1 in the 2012 pre-season with a 4-2 victory over the Coquitlam Express tonight at the South Surrey Arena.

The goals came fast and furious in the first period with the Express opening the scoring 6:32 into the game when Zack Pryzbek knocked home a rebound in the slot. The Eagles answered back just over four minutes later when Trevor Cameron walked out of the left corner and fed Beau Orser at the right post, and Orser tucked it past Coquitlam goaltender Cole Huggins to even the score. Surrey took the lead at the 13:40 mark after a beautiful tic-tac-toe passing play between Drew Best and Devon Toews resulted in Brandon Morley walking into the slot uncontested and beating Huggins between the legs. But before the period was out, young Coquitlam forward Mathew Barzal tied it up at 2-2 with a slick wrist shot that beat Eagles goaltender Glenn Ferguson through the five hole.

Trevor Cameron scored the lone goal in the middle frame at 9:44 after his long shot from the top of the circle took a weird bounce off the end boards and ricocheted back to him in the crease with a wide open cage in front of him. Colton Mackie would seal the deal in the late stages of the third period, after the Express had pulled Huggins in favour of a sixth skater, when he fired a slap shot from the opposite side of centre right into the top corner of the net.
